Amazon Announces Prime Big Deal Days in October

In October, Amazon will be hosting a savings event called Prime Big Deal Days, following the success of its annual Prime Day sale in July. Although no specific details have been released yet about the upcoming sale, it is expected to offer deals and discounts comparable to those seen during Prime Day and Black Friday.

Last year, the Prime Early Access Sale took place in mid-October and kick-started the holiday shopping season, attracting many shoppers with its wide range of discounted items. Although this year’s October sale has a new name, we anticipate that it will provide a similar value to customers.

Introduced in 2015, Amazon’s Prime Day has become a highly anticipated two-day sale. Except for last year, when it was moved to October due to the pandemic, and this year when it took place in June, Prime Day has traditionally occurred in mid-July. Last year, Amazon also introduced the Prime Early Access Sale in October, and this year it is rebranded as Prime Big Deal Days, likely to resemble last year’s fall event.

Before their major sale events, Amazon typically promotes early deals, discounts, and other promotions across various categories and brands. This includes their own devices like Echo smart speakers, Fire tablets, Fire TVs, Kindle e-readers, as well as brands like Ring and Eero.

Customers can expect price reductions on popular items such as headphones, robotic vacuums, smartwatches, mattresses, apparel, household goods, back-to-school supplies, electronics, and toys. Amazon usually offers hundreds of thousands of deals during these events, encompassing seasonal and gift items.

During the sale, it’s important to note that not all discounts are guaranteed to be available throughout its duration. Amazon may have Lightning Deals with countdown clocks to create a sense of urgency and encourage quick purchases. Other sales may end if items go out of stock. To make the most of these sales, it’s advisable to follow some tips for getting the best deals.

Consumer Reports’ product experts will be closely monitoring all the deals and sharing the best offers on top-tested products. While no other retailers have announced big sales in October at this time, it wouldn’t be surprising if major competitors like Walmart and Best Buy hold competing events. Even if that’s not the case, prices at other stores often match Amazon’s during similar events. Savvy shoppers can compare prices and take advantage of the best offers available, saving money regardless of the item they’re purchasing. Additionally, some retailers may offer extra benefits like free same-day delivery or curbside pickup to enhance the shopping experience.

To access the sale, non-Prime members will need to sign up for an Amazon Prime membership. It’s recommended to add desired items to a shopping list or cart, which can be moved to ‘saved for later’ for quick access and to check whether they’re available at a discount during the sale. Consumer Reports will be monitoring all the deals before and during Prime Big Deal Days, comparing prices against typical costs of tested products and observing prices at other retailers.

This will help consumers avoid overspending or purchasing items that may not meet their expectations. CR’s Deals hub is also a valuable resource for finding the latest and best deals from Amazon and other major retailers leading up to and during the sale event.
